Health & Independence for Seniors Enhanced through Partnership

On March 10, 2020, Abramson Senior Care officially opened a satellite location for their Nurse Practitioner services to help serve the medical needs of the hundreds of seniors who came daily to KleinLife: Northeast Philadelphia. Days after the opening, the pandemic reached Philadelphia and KleinLife had to close its facilities to the public. Although the situation seemed dire for the community partnership, KleinLife and Abramson Senior Care have continued to think positively while keeping the seniors in mind. They developed a monthly virtual Healthy Talk series, as part of KleinLife at Home, that focuses on various topics in health, wellness, and aging. For the first class, series facilitator Katie Reilly, MSG, CDP, care advisor of the Healthy Brain & Memory Center, touched upon feelings of loneliness during COVID-19. “I look to discuss relevant topics in order to help seniors in a situation that they could be going through now,” said Reilly. “We also delve into other topics surrounding this including social interaction, mental stimulation, a healthy diet and exercise program, and factors and facets to continue achieving healthy aging while at home.”

Although Abramson Senior Care is not currently taking appointments for their Nurse Practitioner services at the KleinLife location, they, with KleinLife, are planning ahead for when a new opening date becomes more clear. “We look forward to welcoming Abramson Senior Care back at our Northeast Philadelphia location, along with our senior participants that we miss so dearly” Sue Aistrop, Active Adult Life Vice President at KleinLife mentions, “...Their health is extremely important to us and Abramson Senior Care shares the same goal with us, which is for them to remain healthy and independent for as long as they can.”
